7 Steps to be a Better Habit Builder
You’ll recall that in last week’s blog I said “the best time to build new habits is when your existing ones no longer serve you”.
So once you realise this – then what?
I offer 7 steps for you to become a better habit builder. Importantly, building new habits doesn’t need time, it needs conviction.
Importantly, in my experience there are 3 key parts to successfully and sustainably adopting a new habit: the foundation, the environment and the management.
The foundation consists of your Habit, your Attributes and your Beliefs.
- Habit – what is it and what personal purpose does it serve?
- Attributes – what strengths do you already have that can serve your future habit now?
- Beliefs – what existing beliefs may support or obstruct your habit? The environment consists of your Influencers and your Tendencies.
- Influencers – who and what do you need to support your habit?
- Tendencies – how do you typically respond to change and how does that impact your desired habit? The management consists of your Absolutes and your Targets.
- Absolutes – what actions will you commit to and how frequently will you practise?
- Targets – how will you know when your habit will be fully grown and thriving?
The 7 steps presented here will help you build your conviction.
